Title: 20,000 and Something More
Assemblage sculpture with found objects and repurposed materials
21x20x8in.
This artwork was created with the goal of depicting the famous science fiction author Jules Verne, specifically his relationship to the Nautilus submarine.
The Nautilus is a fictional submarine featured in Verne's novel "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" and is captained by the enigmatic character Captain Nemo.
Instead of depicting Nemo, I have chosen to depict Verne as a child, perhaps to represent his sense of wonder and imagination that led him to create such an iconic work of science fiction.
Additionally, I included portraits of women in the artwork, who - the history tells - Verne had some sort of interest in, but due to the fact that they were already spoken for, was unable to pursue them.
